'Star group' and making cards

Today was my second day of internship at Turnstyle. Just like yesterday, Barbara dropped me off around 8.30 so we were a bit early. I met up with Gaynor again and she gave me several options of what I could do that day. I decided to join something called 'star group' during the morning programme and then head over to the workshop to join the card making club in the afternoon.
After I had a cup of tea and waited around in the kitchen until everyone arrived, I joined Ella, a staff member for some pick-ups. We drove around Wallingford, where Turnstyle is located close to, to pick up Heather and Lisa, two girls with Down syndrome. Despite of their disability, they're capable of independent thinking and acting. Heather spends 5 days a week working in the kitchen at Turnstyle, while Lisa goes to Turnstyle 3 days a week and spends the other 2 working at a cafe in Wallingford. This morning however, they were both joining the bingo.
After dropping Lisa and Heather off at the bingo, Emma took me to the cozy meeting room, which was already filled with star group members. Emma briefly explained to me that 'star group' is a kind of forum for clients who are able to think of ideas and topics of discussion. During star group meetings, the members discuss different situations and ideas. Every now and than, they organise a fun morning programme people can sign up for.
This meeting we talked about the quiz morning the star group was going to host in a week. We made up questions for the quiz master and made a nice poster to hopefully attract a lot of competitors. After this, everyone had lunch and some other clients joined us for a chat.
After lunch, me and Emma went off to the workplace. Because we had to wait for everyone to arrive, we prepared the room by taking out two massive bottles of glue, a bucket filled with scissors and 4 boxes with paper, stickers, glitters and rhinestones.
When everyone had arrived, Emma announced we were going to make birthday cards for everyone at Turnstyle who was celebrating his/her birthday in March. I was helping Linda, an elderly lady who was new to card making club. After Linda made a beautiful and very glittery birthday card for a girl named Charlotte, who turns 21 next week, we both did one separately. Linda was in a really creative mood and had so much fun! She ended up making 4 birthday cards, which made her very proud.
But time flies when you're having fun and soon it was 3 o'clock, time to clean up! The clients were either dropped off at their houses or returned to Turnstyle's main building to wait for someone to come and pick them up. In the meanwhile, me, Emma, and two women called Jenny and Eve cleaned up the working place.
After cleaning up, Barbara came to pick me up and together we were going to get Robin from school. The elementary school was celebrating Carnaval today, so you saw dressed-up kids everywhere!
They were all super exited because they don't call this day Carnaval in England, but Pancake day, which means everyone is going to bake and eat some lovely pancakes! (Such a funny tradition, I wish they had that in Holland as well. Or even better... chocolate day!)
We went for some quick groceries to buy ingredients for tonight's dinner, which was supposed to be potato gratin from a French cookbook, according to Peter. Since we couldn't fine a recipe for gratin in any of Peter's French cookbooks, Babara and I improvised one, which is in the oven while I'm writing this blog. I don't know if it tastes good yet, but it smells yummy and thats a start!
